benefits of yoga

Happy Living Yoga-ImageFor me 2016 will be a year of building. I am excited to continue attending new yoga training and seminars to add to my current and future classes. The training I plan to take will help me bring more tools, new techniques and ideas to both my classes and myself. I am a true believer that one should always keep learning as it is an investment in your future and those around you. I have found that while we take classes to learn to teach we also teach to learn. I have learned so much from teaching and I am always learning from my students, teachers, and fellow practitioners as we are all unique and learn in different ways.

Another important part of my 2016 plan is to spread the benefits of yoga to friends, family, my community and anyone who is curious or interested. You can google “benefits of yoga” and the results are almost never ending. I believe that one of the basic benefits of yoga is the positive effect it has on people of all ages, no matter your ability, shape or size. Yoga can help you learn to control your breath, to calm your mind, unwind and relax. The connection of breath and movement in yoga is like a moving meditation for many. When you slow down, step onto your mat and breathe, your body and mind know what you need at that moment and you can be true to yourself. Some days you may feel ready for a more intense practice and other days you may need to be gentle with yourself. Yoga is a practice that allows you to be authentic and mindful of where you are at that present moment and be kind with yourself and your body.

The benefits are vast and some can be seen and felt almost immediately while others may be felt as your practice evolves. Yoga has so many benefits and I have lightly touched on some of the emotional benefits it can have. There are many physical benefits of yoga that I will discuss in a future post but for me personally the emotional benefits of yoga have led to the physical benefits. It was only when I learned to let go of all expectations and let myself be present in that hour that I began to feel the postures and movement of the practice. Yoga has and continues to enrich and transform my life and I truly am passionate about sharing this with others.

Thank you for joining me on my journey and I wish you a healthy, happy 2016 that is filled with peace, love and gratitude!

May the benefits of yoga strengthen both your mind, body, and soul!

Welcome to my website and my first blog!

How did I get to this point?  This is my story so far……but before I continue I have to send a huge thank you to my husband Chris and our kids Emily and Ryan for their support and continued encouragement through this adventure.  I love you all!!!

I am excited and nervous all at once to follow my love of yoga and sharing it with others!  I have been practicing yoga for many years, starting at home in my basement with videos, mostly by Trudie Styler and James D’Silva and working my way into a private studio in the small town of Lac La Biche, Alberta where I live.

I was very fortunate to find a place to continue and grow my yoga practice with the beautiful Donna Cloutier at Embrace Yoga Studio in 2014.  I continue my practice with her and can’t thank her enough for all she has and continues to do for me (Thank you Donna).

It was with Donna’s encouragement and recommendation that my path crossed with the amazing Melissa Wasserfall of True Yoga in Edmonton, Alberta.  I was accepted into her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training and with that training my teaching journey began.  Melissa is truly like no one I have ever met and I can’t even begin to write enough kind words about her(those of you who know her, know what I am a talking about).  If you ever have the chance to take a class, workshop, teacher training, or anything from her I highly encourage you too!!!

She is a wealth of knowledge and kindness!

It is interesting how this story goes as Melissa in turn encouraged me to take my Kids/Teens Yoga Teacher training with the magical Sarah Hasting Morris of Little Wonders Yoga.  Sarah is without a doubt following her true path and talent in teaching yoga to our youth.  She is amazing.   During my time with Sarah we had a discussion about the benefits of incorporating meditation and mindfulness training with yoga and she recommended the training at Lifestyle Meditation in Edmonton.  I then found myself at the Lifestyle Meditation Learn to Teach Kids & Teens Meditation Teacher Training this fall.  This was by far the largest class I had the pleasure of being of part of and was led by the awesome Kayley Weisbrot.  This training was so much more than I had expected and I plan on continuing my training with the Lifestyle Meditation tribe.

I have only met inspiring people who have lead me to meet more amazing people through yoga and my trainings.

It has all taken me to this point and I have to thank the extremely talented Jillian Schecher of Jillian Schecher Studio who has designed my logo, business cards and this beautiful website!  She has patiently lead me through all the design aspects and I thank her for her time and expertise.  She is such a lovely, inspiring, and professional designer to work with and I am grateful that our paths crossed when they did.  I hope we work together again in the future.

It has been an amazing year and I couldn’t have anticipated it which is the best thing about this life.  I am excited for what the journey ahead may bring.

So with that I welcome you to Happy Living Yoga and invite you to join me as I continue this journey!
