Defining Your Why - An Inspirational Day with Jack Canfield

defining your whyWelcome to late-October! Winter is well on its way. We have had wind, freezing rain, snowfall warnings and now it’s melting just like spring.  It has been an October full of change as we transition into the beautiful white winter wonderland of snow. With snow comes socks, jackets, scarfs and all that warmth and comfort. I do love the warmth of my wood burning fireplace, a cup of hot chocolate and of course a great book.defining your whyThis month my book is Jack Canfield's The Success Principles, How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be.  My grandpa Lorne (who turns 90 next month) gave me a copy of this book for my birthday in Sept of 2005 and it is a book I will always cherish.I have always wanted to meet Jack in person and I was able to earlier this month when I attended Jack Canfield's 1 Day to Greatness Event in Kamloops BC.  I flew home feeling inspired and motivated to live a life of purpose and love while following my passions.defining your whyMy day at Jack's event was filled with positivity, clarity, goal setting and humor; because let’s face it a learning environment filled with humor and entertainment is great education! I was challenged to ask myself, write down and share with others “my why” or my purpose, my visions and goals, some of my limiting beliefs surrounding my goals and my BHAG (big hairy audacious goal). It was thought provoking, encouraging, scary and exciting throughout the day. It of course left me wanting more time to listen, learn and grow and to meet and connect with new people.Part of our day was to work on writing out things that bring us joy and happiness. And then to use those to work on writing what our purpose statement could look like; and of course sharing it with someone at the seminar you don’t know. I have done the exercise about 3 times and each time it keeps the same theme but I have revised some of the words and I imagine it will continue to transform as I revisit it and work through the book. So this is my current business why:

My purpose is sharing wellness, through yoga, meditation and relaxation to support and empower others to live an authentic, healthy life full of love and happiness.

I was beaming to return home with a signed in person copy of Jack Canfield's 10 Year Anniversary updated version of The Success Principles!! It is well written inspiring material with great tools and exercises to use in your daily life. The big one for me, which I really relate to is the Hour of Power (see link). It consists of 20 minutes of meditation (quiet relaxing time), 20 minutes of movement (yoga for me) and 20 minutes of inspirational reading (currently Jack's revised book). I know you might read this and say a whole hour – where will I possibly find that. I hear ya loud and clear but when we really break down our day it is surprising where we can take 60 minutes from. Trust me you have 60 minutes and you are WORTH it to give yourself that time. For the moms out there I say again……YOU ARE WORTH IT!defining your whyI felt clear Saturday evening after the event and even more so Sunday morning. Some say there is power in clarity and I would say I feel powerful moving forward with my goals. Yes there is still fear but as Jack reminds us we must be willing to take risks and feel uncomfortable to achieve success and greatness. So in conclusion to my weekend away I do have a big hairy audacious goal, I have it written it down, I have shared it with a friend (okay a few friends) for accountability, I have it proudly posted where I can see it every morning and I try to take action steps every day to achieve it.I know my “why” or “purpose” will change as I journey through life but today I am very happy with it! If you don’t know what your “why” or what your “purpose” is then don’t get caught in the trap of thinking that somehow you can’t live a great life without it. Just keep busy and keep doing what brings you JOY!

Joy is a GPS for the right track of your life. Follow that!
